Pleasantville graduate Nia Ali finishes fifth in the 100-meter hurdles at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
June 27, 2011 – 2:46 amNia Ali, a 22-year-old graduate of Pleasantville High School, finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles final Sunday at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Ali, who won the NCAA hurdles title this spring as a redshirt senior at the University of Southern California, finished in 12.86 seconds. Runners affiliated with Nike took three of the top five spots, as Kellie Wells won the event in 12.50 seconds, Dawn Harper was third in 12.65 and and Virginia Powell fourth in 12.76. Danielle Carruthers, an unaffiliated runner, placed second in 12.59 seconds.
Ali ran 12.73 in winning her preliminary heat Saturday and 12.76 in the semifinals on Sunday.
