Outback Steakhouse Boomerang Bowl

July 5, 2011 – 3:33 pm

The Kings at Lebanon football game Aug. 26 will not only be the season opener, but the first Boomerang Bowl sponsored by Outback Steakhouse.

Lebanon athletic director Bill Stewart said the game was the brainchild of former Lebanon athletic director Joe Roberts and former Kings athletic director Matt Koenig.

Kings AD Phil Poggi said it is a four-year agreement between the schools.

Student fundraisers will be done in conjunction with the game to benefit local food pantries, Poggi said.

Stewart said the Mason Kings Island Outback and the Deerfield Township Outback franchise have been instrumental in organizing the game.

Stewart said Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz is on board in helping to promote the event. Students have created a Facebook event to help design a T-shirt for the 2011 Boomerang Bowl.

Outback will be hosting a tailgate party pregame at Lebanon and a dinner for the winning team, Stewart said. Although, still working on this, each school selected a local charity to contribute money to in what we hope will turn out to be a competition between both schools as a charity-based fundraiser.
