Breathtaking Nature Short Film Shot on a DSLR

January 20, 2012 – 1:12 am

Hello James. You recently shot and edited two short films. First there is “We Were Wanderers on a Prehistoric Earth” and secondly there is “The Isle of Langkawi”. Can you start by telling us a little more about how you got these two projects off the ground?

Through Vimeo, Tourism Malaysia approached 5 different filmmakers to make a selection of films to promote Malaysia. They approached me because they had enjoyed a film I made called called Splitscreen: A Love Story. Each filmmaker was given $12000 and commissioned to make two films on different subjects, we were given Nature and History. The briefs were wide open so we could do whatever we wanted.

Let’s go into a bit more detail on your film “We Were Wanderers”. Here is the short film (below):

What fonts are you using in your opening title sequence?

Gill Sans and Edwardian Script.

Easy A-levels leave students ill-prepared for unbiversity

January 16, 2012 – 1:11 pm

Easy A-levels are leaving students at a disadvantage when they arrive at university

University departments are being forced to run extra classes for first years to bring new students up to speed on key concepts in maths which they should have learned at school, according to Professor Alison Wolf, from Kings College London.

At the same time, the drive to make subjects such as physics “more accessible” and appealing to teenagers has resulted in exams becoming easier, said Tim Oates, the specialist reviewing the National Curriculum for the education secretary, Michael Gove.

“A large number of universities are having to do more lower level work with students when they come in to bring them up to a certain level, particularly in maths,” she said.

Come on, people! Poor men do not become President

January 14, 2012 – 11:43 pm

-By Warner Todd Huston

I have to say, I am getting a bit sick and tired of this nonsensical lament about how rotten it is that those running for president are “rich” people. Stop it right now, America. The fact is that we’ve never really had a poor man as president so talking about it as if it is news that rich people often seek the presidency is stupid. Not only that, but today it is impossible for a poor or even middle class man to run for president anyway, so get this populist silliness out of your minds right this instant.

The latest in this onslaught of populist foolishness is the New York Times (unsurprisingly) with an article full of serious tones on how hard it is going to be for two Harvard educated, Richie-Riches like Obama and Romney to win over those “blue collar Americans.”

“Both are Harvard-educated millionaires,” The Times begins sonorously. “Both have been criticized as elitist and technocratic.
