Making Decisions

I have grown so much since my very first post. It’s honestly hard to believe that I started this blog a year ago; it doesnt feel that long at all. This blog opened my eyes to the fact that people do actually care about what I have to say, and that’s the best feeling! With that being said, I have gotten so accustomed to writing this blog and it feels weird knowing that this is my last one.

When I started working on this blog last year, things were real hectic as far as schoolwork. For me, it seemed like junior year had the heaviest workload. It probably seems like that for most high school students. Junior year was the time when I really had to focus—not that I didnt before then, but it was really the last chance I had to work for the grades I wanted. And with all of that going on, I also had track practices every day!

Monday Morning Essay Tip: Contextualize Educational Objectives

When tailoring essays to specific schools, many candidates do not go far enough to connect themselves with their targets. Offering school-specific information is good, but merely mentioning the particular resource that will be used is not enough—you need to take the extra step, adding context to your educational objectives.

What is the difference between a mere mention and providing context?

Mention:

Context:

In the first example, the candidate shows an awareness of the Sounding Board but does not provide the context necessary for the reader to truly understand how the candidate will actually use the resource; therefore, the mention is entirely superficial. Further, because the candidate has seemingly not taken the time to reflect on this resource, he/she has to move on to listing the classes he/she plans to take and thus begins to merely catalog resources rather than offering a reasoned consideration of how the schools offerings fit his/her plans.
